CCCEU Warmly Welcomes Joint Statement on China-U.S. Economic and Trade Meeting in Geneva, Calling for Global Trade Stability
Brussels, 12 May 2025
The China Chamber of Commerce to the EU (CCCEU) warmly welcomes the recent agreement between China and the United States to temporarily reduce reciprocal tariffs. This encouraging development helps ease prolonged trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies and brings much-needed stability and confidence to global markets.
The US-China trade dispute has had profound impacts on global value chains, manufacturing systems, and international commercial relations, including those between China and the EU. The decision by both sides to implement a 90-day pause on further measures and to reduce most tariffs reflects a shared recognition that economic decoupling is not a viable path forward and that dialogue and cooperation remain essential to addressing global challenges.
The CCCEU hopes that this renewed engagement will contribute to the revitalisation of a rules-based, open and inclusive multilateral trading system. We encourage all parties to maintain a constructive approach in addressing structural differences and to work together in sustaining confidence and momentum for global economic growth.
As the world’s major economic powers, China, the European Union and the United States are deeply interconnected through trade, investment and industry. We look forward to further positive signals that promote the normalisation of trade and the stabilisation of supply chains, helping to foster a more predictable and resilient business environment for enterprises across regions.
