CCCEU's Response to the Voting Outcome of the CSDDD
CCCEU's Response to the Voting Outcome of the CSDDD
March 15, 2024, Brussels
The CCCEU takes note of that ambassadors of the EU member states had voted in favour of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) on March 15, 2024.
While we recognise the vital role of corporations in advancing a sustainable economy and society, and the significance of promoting responsible corporate practices across global trade and supply chains, we remain deeply concerned about the CSDDD's implications.
The chamber and its members are particularly worried about the increased bureaucracy and the unbalanced, disproportionate, and ambiguous obligations imposed on businesses by the CSDDD rules.
Our members stress their concerns that the CSDDD may necessitate subject companies to conduct due diligence across their entire value chains, both directly and indirectly, surpassing their control and capabilities.
In light of these concerns, the CCCEU urges for further dialogue and collaboration to ensure that the CSDDD strikes an appropriate balance between corporate responsibility and the practical realities faced by businesses. We remain committed to actively contributing to the development of sustainable policies that benefit both businesses and society as a whole.
