From March 22nd to 23rd, the 2023 Boao New Power System International Forum was held in Boao, Hainan, China's southernmost province. The forum aimed to jointly promote the realization of the dual-carbon goals of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality.

The forum was hosted by China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. and organized by the Boao New Power System Association. A total of 300 people attended the conference, including leaders of the National Energy Administration and the Hainan Provincial Government, academicians, experts from universities, and representatives of domestic and foreign energy and power organizations, Internet companies, and other related industries.

While accelerating the construction of a national ecological civilization demonstration zone and a clean energy island, Hainan has promoted the development of a new type of power system in recent years. In 2021, the construction of an intelligent grid covering power generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption was completed in the province.

The cases displayed at the forum's Hainan Boao New Power System Exhibition and Exchange Center drew much attention. Among them was Hainan's climate change smart management platform, which is a "high-frequency, multi-dimensional, high-precision" carbon emission statistics, accounting and monitoring system.

In addition, China Southern Power Grid and Hainan Province are jointly exploring the "one network" operation model for new energy vehicle charging and battery swapping across the island. Thus far, a charging service operations platform, a unified WeChat mini-program & mobile App have been created, providing convenient, seamless services for NEV users and suppliers of NEV battery charging/swapping facilities across the province.

The company aims to help China's five southern provinces, Hong Kong and Macau achieve the "double carbon" goal as soon as possible.

By 2030, China Southern Power Grid will be able to support new energy installations of more than 100 million kilowatts. New energy will become the largest installed source of power generation, and the goal of establishing a new power system will be more-or-less achieved.

In addition, the company also plans to start construction of Hainan's 500 kV digital power grid before the end of June this year, with a projected investment of about RMB5.2 billion. After completion, full coverage of a 500 kV provincial digital power grid will be achieved, a first for China.
