BOC Wins the Outstanding Leadership in ESG-Related Loans and Other Four Awards from Global Finance
Recently, Global Finance announced the results of the 2022 “Sustainable Finance Awards”, and BOC garnered five awards in total.
BOC was named global winner for “Outstanding Leadership in ESG-Related Loans” as the only Chinese institution, and country,territory&district winner for “Sustainable Finance 2022” in China. It also won three awards out of 12 awards in Asia-Pacific, namely, “Outstanding Leadership in Transition/Sustainability Linked Loans”, “Outstanding Leadership in ESG-Related Loans” and “Outstanding Leadership in Sustainable Project Finance” Awards.
Global Finance, founded in 1987, has a readership consisting of decision-makers of transnational corporations and financial institutions across nearly 200 countries and territories. Global Finance selects the top performers among banks and other providers of financial services through votes by the professional review committee, making the awards highly authoritative and influential in the world.
Over the years, BOC has actively supported sustainable economic and social development through financial forces. In terms of green loans, BOC participated in the financing of a series of international major green projects, such as Vineyard Wind’s offshore wind power project, and ranked first among Chinese banks on the Bloomberg League Table for global green loans and sustainability-linked loans in 2021. BOC plans to provide financial support of no less than RMB1 trillion to the green industries during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Regarding green bond underwriting, the Bank underwrote all kinds of green bond globally and supported customers in attaining their financing goals successfully, ahead of Chinese banks on the Bloomberg League Table for global offshore green bonds in 2021. As to the issuance of and investment in green bonds, BOC has been one of the most active green bond issuers and issue the first biodiversity-themed green bonds among global financial institutions. And it also topped the Investment List of Green Debt Financing Instruments in 2021 by the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors (NAFMII).
BOC has attached great importance to global cooperation in green finance and responsible investment. As the supporter of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and signatory of the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), the Bank participated in multiple discussions about green finance standards held by the Technical Committee for Sustainable Finance of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC322) and other organizations, and actively proposed advice and suggestions. In September 2021, BOC took the lead in pledging that, it ceased?to?provide?financing?for?new?coal?mining?and?coal-fired?power?projects?outside?Chinese?mainland, except for contracted projects. BOC will offer?constant support?for?global?energy?transformation.
In the future, BOC will firmly and thoroughly implement the green and low-carbon development concept, continue to promote the development of green finance business, create a distinctive brand for carbon financial services, strive to become the preferred bank for green financial services, and contribute to the realization of national goals of “Peak Carbon Emissions and Carbon Neutrality” and the goal set by the Paris Agreement.
