BGI's COVID-19 antigen test kit was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) as one of the five brands of antigen rapid testing kits for public use for the first time. This helps broaden testing capacity of China, as affected people will be able to screen themselves for early detection. 

There are three tires of people who can use the antigen self-test kits in China:

The first group are those who visit community healthcare centers within five days of having respiratory symptoms or fever.

The second group covers those in quarantine, including those in isolation, close contacts of COVID-19 patients, overseas arrivals, and residents of areas under lockdown.

The third group is mainly community residents who want to get tested.

However, nucleic acid tests still serve as the primary diagnostic tool for detecting COVID-19.
