The CCCEU pledges green actions as Climate Ambition Summit opens
It is inspiring that the politicians and leaders from businesses and civil society have gathered with enhanced action plans at the online Climate Ambition Summit on 12th December to mark the fifth anniversary of signing the historic Paris Agreement to collectively tackle the global climate woe that has threatened the earth.
On behalf of Chinese businesses in Europe, China Chamber of Commerce to the EU has pledged to take increased responsibilities and actions to help realize sustainable transformation and limit the rise in global temperature to 1.5-2C degrees, a core target of Paris Agreement.
The CCCEU has known well that China and EU have already been leading the global climate fight and seriously translated its international commitments into domestic development agenda. After announcing in September that China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, President Xi Jinping pledged more actions at Saturday summit. The European Union’s 27 member states agreed on Friday to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent from 1990 levels by 2030 — a vast improvement from the previous 40 percent target, and EU aims to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.
“When some parts of the world are heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Climate Ambition Summit is sending relieving message that the world can be united with increased courage and determination to tackle our common and pressing challenge,” said Zhou Lihong, CCCEU chairwoman.
“Inspired by such spirit, the CCCEU and its members will be scaling up the efforts by working together with the partners along the supply chain, contributing innovative technologies, green finance, energy-saving solutions, renewable energy and even environment-friendly lifestyle options, to shape better business ecosystem, bolster greener global recovery and growth, and build back a more beautiful planet .”
