After considering stakeholders' opinions and concerns, the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU (CCCEU) has produced its first Briefing (CN - EN), which contains policy recommendations for post-Brexit economic interaction between China and the European Union (EU).

On behalf of its members, the CCCEU advocates a pragmatic approach. The United Kingdom (UK) has regretfully left the EU and the main goal now is to mitigate the impact Brexit will have on businesses, especially by reducing uncertainty and market fluctuations. The CCCEU urges agreement to be found on post-Brexit norms, which should be clear, comprehensive and balanced, without repercussions on the interests of third parties.

The post-Brexit period also opens opportunities for greater commitment to growth and prosperity. Together, China and the EU constitute a market of 1.9 billion consumers, with a growing middle class expected to surpass 1 billion individuals this decade. The CCCEU and its members are keen on supporting the EU's high-quality, green and inclusive growth, and to raise its average annual growth to a level between 2 and 3% during 2020-2030.

To achieve these common goals, two elements are fundamental: the recognition of the contributions by Chinese enterprises investing in the EU, and mutual trust between European and Chinese partners.

"Chinese businesses create jobs in the EU and invest in local development and research, thus helping pave the way for a decade of growth and prosperity. I am confident that the EU leadership will take this into account in the formulation of its position towards China in preparation for the 2020 EU-China Summit", said Zhou Lihong, chairperson of the CCCEU.

Zhou also added that "the CCCEU has been making efforts to strengthen its research capacity. From now onwards, the CCCEU will be regularly releasing policy recommendations on pressing issues in China-EU economic activities."
